Augusta Bound

Posted: 5th April 2009

Had a great couple of weeks off and then it was back to work again. On the way to Houston I stopped off at Augusta which was pretty exciting and played a practice round with my coach Michael Bannon and a couple of Augusta National members, Mike Malone and John Harris. John has set the pin positions at the Masters for the past 15 years so he obviously knows where all the pins will be placed and he had me putting to all different spots on the greens so that was really helpful. It was just great to get a good look around the place so I'll know it a little better before I get there tomorrow for the start of... MORE »

Georgia On My Mind

Posted: 23rd March 2009

Since I got back from Doral to be honest I haven't done that much of any note apart from resting up a bit as I found it quite full-on in the States and it was just great to get back home.  I've had a couple of nights out with my mates and of course we went out celebrating St Patrick's Day and went to the School's Cup Rugby Final which was at Ravenhill so that was a fun day.

I've been doing a bit of practice and had Paul Hurrion, who specialises in putting, over on Thursday so we did a good days work on that. Actually, I was supposed to get up at 8am today and play golf but looked out... MORE »

A Bear Hug For Me

Posted: 11th March 2009

I arrived on the Thursday before the Accenture Match Play and spent the Friday at the Titleist Performance Institute in California and worked with Bob Vokey on my wedges got a new wedge set up - I changed the loft of my pitching wedge from 48 to 46 and put a little more bounce on it and I changed the bounce on my 52 degree from 8 degrees to 12 degrees and it makes the ball go a bit further as the club doesn't dig into the turf as much so it doesn't give it as much spin. Then I tested the new Titleist Pro V1X which I have to say is the best ball I've ever played, even last... MORE »

A Whirlwind Week

Posted: 11th February 2009

Getting home from Dubai was a bit of an adventure due to the snow at Heathrow so we had to make our way up to Manchester and eventually got home on the Monday evening and had all my friends and family round and we had a great night celebrating.

I did a Media day on the Tuesday with Martin Hardy, ISM's  media wizard who came over to Ireland and we did two hours at Holywood Golf Club attending to the worlds media which was great and we some interviews and some photos. I didn't think I would have got such a big reception when I got home - there was a lot of  press and photographers at the golf club when I went... MORE »

The Best Week Ever!

Posted: 3rd February 2009

Of all the places to have my maiden win this would have been one of my first choices because I love Dubai, my Mum and Dad were there, my sponsors Jumeirah are based in Dubai and I've made so many friends there too.

It's a fantastic feeling to have won wire to wire - I played well, I putted well and led from start to finish which I thought was pretty good - I had the chance  in Switzerland but it didn't work out so it was great to do it here. Someone asked me how I felt when the putt went in the hole - I think I said excited, elated, jubilant, relief, happiness, joy and I think they were... MORE »
