Monkey Business

Posted: 1st December 2009

Myself and Gmac were obviously disappointed that we didn’t win at Mission Hills but we played great together and the main thing was that we really enjoyed ourselves. It would have been fantastic to win but we both played pretty average on the last day and still had a good chance but it just wasn’t meant to be.  .

The Molinari brothers played great on the Sunday, especially Francesco who holed a couple of really big putts on twelve and thirteen and that was probably the difference. I missed a little one on ten and we had a few more chances but just weren’t able to convert them. I’m sure myself and Graeme will have plenty more chances in the future of taking the World Cup back to Ireland. It was a great golf course which we both enjoyed playing.

I’ve now arrived at Sun City in South Africa for the Nedbank Golf Challenge and I am really looking forward to the week even though I’m not feeling too great right now. I think I’m a bit run down and feeling a bit fluey – I went to the range to hit a few shots today and felt that I’d got ‘jelly legs’ so I’ve retired to my room with various potions from the Doctor to try and shake it off before the tournament begins on Thursday. Hopefully I’ll be feeling well enough to have a practice round tomorrow on the course, which I have to say looks absolutely fantastic.

I’m staying in the Palace Hotel which is just amazing and I had a most wonderful fourteen hour sleep last night which was much needed after last week!  I’ve been on the go for nine weeks now and I think it’s beginning to take its toll.

Yesterday after I arrived I was having some lunch next to the pool at the hotel and was just looking back up at the hotel and was amazed to see monkeys hopping from balcony to balcony and also jumping around on the roof! So it looks like there could be some interesting wildlife around the course as well!

Apart from the golf this week there’s a Gala Dinner tomorrow night and on Thursday they’re having a Beach Party at the water park here which is called Valley of the Waves, and then on Friday we are going into the bush (the hotel complex is on the Pilanesberg Game Reserve) and having a Braai, which is a South African barbeque. So aside from the golf it’s going to be a pretty busy week and Holly is coming to join me as it’s her birthday so it’ll be great having her here with me.

After this week I’ll be going back home to Ireland and I’m really looking forward to spending time in my house, seeing my family and friends and not having to think about golf for a while – I think Theo will be getting plenty of long walks.

So that’s about all from me this week and hopefully I can get a good result here to end the season on a positive note.
