Awards Galore

Posted: 22nd December 2009

Hi there everyone from a very cold and snowy Northern Ireland – which I have to say is a bit of fun!

I’ve just been chilling out at home since my return from South Africa and haven’t touched a club in two weeks so I’m having a really good break which has given me plenty of time to get all my Christmas shopping done which is now complete and all packed and wrapped.

I’ve had a couple of nights out recently and on Saturday bumped into Darren Clarke in Café Vaudeville in Belfast so we had a bit of a catch up and a few drinks – it was quite funny bumping into him like that as he’s never usually there with him living down in London.

I went on the local radio station today, Cool FM, from eight till ten which was good fun – it’s the best radio station in Belfast and they were asking me a few questions and stuff and we had a real laugh on the show.

Last weekend I went to see Ulster play against Stad Francais and Ulster beat them which was quite a big upset as they’re a really good team. I know a few of the guys on the team so we had a bit of a night out after and a few of us ended up back at my house and we had a bit of late night/early morning!

I’ve been winning a few awards recently and the one I’m most proud of is Northern Ireland’s Most Glamorous Male (sorry Mr Clarke!!!) and that was done by In Magazine. There’s another magazine called Go Belfast and I won their Sports Star of the Year and then I went to the Bank of Ireland Excellence in Sports Awards and won Golfer of the Year and then won the Irish Golf Writers Award for Professional of the Year.

At the Bank of Ireland Awards I was there with Padraig Harrington and Christy O’Connor Junior and I sat beside Brian O’Driscoll at dinner which was just fantastic and we spent a lot of time chatting about rugby which I’m really into.

On Christmas Day we’ll be going up to see my Mum’s side of the family for a few hours in the morning and then returning home where Mum will be preparing her Christmas feast for us which is just brilliant and I’m really looking forward to it. Mum and Dad always have a party on Christmas Eve so there’ll be loads of people round at the house and it’s always a great evening and seriously good fun.

The golf season is so long these days and it’s just amazing to have six weeks off to reflect on the season and to have some good thinking time which we don’t have time to do on Tour so I’m really enjoying this time off.

And on that note I’d just like to wish all of you who read my blog and support me throughout the year a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful 2010.

I’ll be checking in with you again during the week of Abu Dhabi.

Merry Christmas, Rory.
