Stop Start Stop Start!

Posted: 7th June 2010

It was a good week at the Memorial at Muirfield Village but the weather delays got to be a bit of a pain – I think I spent thirteen hours at the golf course on Saturday!

From tee to green I played really well, but having said that I shot five under over the weekend and I felt that I could have been ten or twelve under for the weekend as I hit the ball great. It was a little frustrating for me on the Sunday as I couldn’t really get the putter going.

Anyway, I finished in a tie for 10th which is a nice way to start this three week stretch of tournaments in America.

During the week I spent quite a bit of time in Jack’s (Mr Nicklaus) company and Tiger’s – so that was all really cool.

If you read the blog last week you’ll know that I was playing (with Tiger) in the pre-tournament Skins Game – well I have to report that I didn’t win any skins so that was a bit disappointing. I played pretty well but skins are quite funny and sometimes you don’t get anything out of it. However, it was really good fun with a huge crowd following us round and was for a good cause which was the First Tee Programme organised by the PGA Tour and all the money raised goes to various children’s charities.

Tiger was chatty the whole way round and I really enjoyed being in his company. On the Saturday when we suffered really bad weather delays, he was playing in the group ahead of me so we were both in the same safe house during the delay.  As we were pretty bored we started doing a bit of golf trivia which was really entertaining and made the time pass quickly!

With all the weather delays last week there wasn’t any time for anything other than golf course, hotel, room service, sleep and golf course in constant rotation! I was getting back to the hotel at 7pm, eating, sleeping and then getting up again at 6am!!! When you got on the golf course you never knew how many holes you were going to be able to play so all in all it was a bit hectic, but great that it came to a close on schedule.

On Sunday night we stayed in Ohio and arrived in Memphis, for the St Jude Classic at TPC Southwind, this morning – it’s pretty hot down here so I’m just having a day off today (Monday) to get myself together for the rest of the week. I’ve been up to the course to register and that’s about it for the day. I haven’t seen the course yet but I believe it’s a good test and generally the final score isn’t too low – I think about ten or twelve under usually wins it so that’ll be my aim for the week.

Big congratulations go to my mate Gmac (Graeme McDowell) who won the Celtic Manor Wales Open and also to Justin Rose for winning his first PGA Tour event.

That’s all for this week and I’ll report it again before the US Open.

Cheers, Rory.
