what is your favourite course rory ?

Jordan Halley

Hi Jordan, well it has to be Quail Hollow where I won earlier in the year and also Lough Erne in Co Fermanagh in Ireland which is absolutely stunning. All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory. What is the Lie Angle on your putter? What do you think the tour avg of lie angle's are? Thanks

Rory88 Logan Callahan

Hi there, the lie angle on my putter is three degrees - I think the tour average would be about four degrees. Cheers, Rory.

Rory, so with the announcement of the PGA Championship going to Quail Hollow in 2017 are you just psyched?? I thought of you when I saw the news. So you'll be 28 at the time, which seems like a great age for winning a (another??) Major! Maybe you can try to repeat (or better?) those scores you made there in May! Good luck in the rest of the Fed Ex Cup tournaments! Margaret

Margaret Culbertson

Hi Margaret, it's great news that the tournament is going to Quail Hollow and I'll certainly be looking forward to that in 2017! It'll certainly be a great feeling knowing that I've won there before! Cheers, Rory.

Rory, during the practice round (Tues) at the Barclay's you were kind enough to sign an autograph and take a great picture with my son Matt. We both really appreciated it and are big fans. I assume that the demands on your time can be difficult to balance, how do you manage all the things that are going on each week? Steve Santo

Steve Santo

Hi Steve, I was glad to oblige. Juggling the time at tournaments can be tricky and it takes a bit of getting used to but now I think it comes second nature to me and I have it pretty well planned out as to what time alllows me to do and not to do!!! All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory, I am going to the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor this year on the Saturday, and be very excited to see you, and i will be mostly interested how you play under all the pressure. I am interested how did you start playing golf and who inspired you, and if you weren't a golfer what other career choice would you have chosen, thanks very much james 16

James Nelson

Hi James, it's great that you're coming to watch the Ryder Cup and hope you enjoy the experience. I am certainly looking forward to it as it'll be my first one. I started playing golf when I was really young - probably about two when I first held a golf club! My dad played and I guess I just wanted to do what he did!! If I wasn't a golfer I think probably a Formula 1 driver would have been pretty exciting! Cheers, Rory.

hey rory, you must be looking forward to the ryder cup, good luck! its a great achievment. see your going to be playing at the dunhill cup, do you know yet if your at St Andrews or carnoustie as i will be coming to watch.

Chloe Fleming

Hi Chloe, I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the Ryder Cup - it's going to be so exciting! The draw for the Dunhill Links Championship isn't done until the beginning of the week of the event so I don't know which course I'll be playing first. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, fantastic job at the PGA Championships! I have a quick question, what's the difference between Northern Ireland and Ireland? Take care, lots of love and support from Canada.

Yebin Chung

Hi Yebin, thanks for the interesting question. Ireland and Northern Ireland are parts of the same island. Though they are part of the same island, these two are different in their religious and political views. First of all, when comparing the geography, Ireland is much larger than Northern Ireland. Ireland, which is also known as ‘Republic of Ireland’ is considered a sovereign nation and its capital is Dublin. Ireland covers about five-sixth of the island. Well, Northern Ireland is considered to be a part of UK and its capital is Belfast. Ireland consists of 26 counties and Northern Ireland comprises of only six counties. I think that just about covers it! All the best, Rory.

Rory, I am a big fan of yours and love your swing. What is your favourite course in the U.S.??? Cian, 13.

Cian O'Regan

Hi Cian, my favourite course in the US has to be Quail Hollow! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, I am 14 and i am playing of a 6 handicap and I just cant seem to get any lower and I was wondering could you give me a tip on how to get to a lower handicap? Good luck

Darren Fitzsimons

Hi Darren, well done on getting down to six which is really good. To get your handicap down lower practice your shots from 100 yards and in as being tight in this area can really lower your scoring. All the best, Rory.

Rory, You have been such a delight to watch play golf. I started when I was 8 years old and at 61, and with an artifical hip, I still play. I still hit the driver 240 on the fly! Not bad for an old man! Anyway, your style, personality, and manner you conduct yourself is a pleasure and badly needed. I applaud you and wish you many wins in the future. Finally, my Grandmother's maiden name was McIlroy - who knows? Good Luck and keep up the hard work. John, conway, South Carolina, USA

John Orr

Hi John, thanks so much for the message and good on you with your new hip and still ripping it! You obviously come from very good stock! Cheers, Rory.

Rory, no question here... Just wanted to state that you have a new fan club here in America! All of my friends as well as my family have become inspired by your character and talent on the Golf Course. We hope the best for you and will continue to watch and support you. Douglas Nelms

Douglas Nelms

Many congrats on your performance in the USPGA,just excellent and next year you will win a Major or Majors, the very best of luck for the rest of the season, and also congrats on making the Ryder Cup Team,as I'm from N.I but living in Dublin it's just great to see you do so well, play well.Paul

Paul Sloan

Unlucky Rory at Whistling Straits, few putts on the back 9 just went astray. Don't worry, there's a Major with your name on it soon. :)

Mark Millar

Hello Rory. I'd first like to say what an incredible player you are. I never kept up much with golf until I found myself at the PGA finals this year. I'll have you know I'm addicted to the game and can't get enough now! You are fantastic. Keep up the great work! P.S. I swear to goodness you looked me square in the eye at the 9th hole at the PGA final...perhaps not. Regardless...I'm hooked on the game now anyway! Thanks!

Kelly Dillon

I wrote to you before the Masters to suggest a McIlroy Slam might be on the cards. Maybe not this year but you have played better and better as the years' gone on. Gutted for you at the PGA. You played the best golf tee to green of anyone. Shame the putts just didn't fall. But you did play some unbelieveable recovery shots. Maybe next year. Well done.

Mark Richards

Hello Rory, all the best at the PGA Championship on Sunday from all your supporters at "Cuchulainns Irish Pub", Streetsville, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

John Coady

Watching you live at Whistling, lets go and bring it back to Northern Ireland, so you and your mate (GMAC) can have a big party so we can keep the Americans quiet!!

Harry McMurtry

Great score today Rory keep up the good work mate rooting for back home in Downpatrick!

Stephen Rice

Rory waiting on you starting your third round, think its going to be a good 2 days for you bring back that trophy! Good luck.

Stephen Rice

Not a question, but lets kick some ... at the PGA!! You have acouple of great guys to play with on the first 2 days. Can't wait to follow your group. Hit it long , high and straight. A must to find the fairways on this course. Long live Rory!! Thx Gene

Gene Clatterbaugh

Rory good luck in bridgestone tomorow, I followed you when you were in Ireland at the JP MCmanus pro am, I was standing behind you on the 14th day on the 2nd day and I seen you hit a sort of stinger 3 or 5 wood, you took a divot which was pretty cool, I just wanted to know how you played this type of shot? Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

Daniel Durham

Hi Daniel, it was a good steady week at Firestone and am looking forward to the USPGA this week. With the stinger type of shot you set up with the ball back in your stance and have your hands forward at address as this deloft's the club. At impact I don't release my hands as much so it's a bit like a punch shot. There you go, easy!! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory. watching you play golf this year has really inspired me to start playing. The more i play the better im getting but the one thing i need help with is putting could you give me some tips please :).

Graham Leonard

Hi Graham, good to hear that you've started playing. It's really important that you get a putter that's the right length for you so I reckon you should go and see your local pga pro and have a chat with him about it. It maybe a good idea at the same time to have a putting lesson so you can get your ball position, stance, weight distribution, etc, etc, just right so that'll definitely be a big help. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory, your win at Quail Hollow was something special and to see you up close at Lough Erne was also special in July and thank you for the photo something I will cherish for many years to come can you tell me what Driver you use and the very best of luck in Ohio and of course the USPGA the following week which I think you'll win play well and thank you, Paul Sloan, Dublin.

Paul Sloan

Hi Paul, thanks for the message and so glad you enjoyed Lough Erne and managed to grab a photo too. My Driver is a Titleist 909D2 with 8.5 degrees of loft. I'm really looking forward to the next couple of weeks in America. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, I first wanted to start off by saying I am a big follower of you. I admire your swing and how you play your game. I am 16 years of age and currently playing off 24. I thought you would be able to give me some tips to get down to a single figure handicap within a year. I was also wondering what handicap is best to have to start playing tournaments and how do I enter my self into them. Thank you.

Niall Moran

Hi Niall, to get down to a good handicap it is really important to get lessons from a PGA professional to make sure you're doing all the right things with your swing. Perfecting your shots from 100 yards and in is a great way to improve your scores and reduce your handicap. At most clubs the competitions are open to players of all abilities who have a handicap and generally speaking they run them in two or three divisions so you are competing with people of a similar ability. So long as you have a proper handicap and are a member of a club you can enter these competitions. When your standard improves and you do get down to single figures you can then enter open competitions and see how you go from there. Good luck, Rory.

Rory, first I just want to start off by saying good luck in the Irish Open. Also, keep working hard like I know you are and I am quite sure we will be seeing your name at the top of the leaderboards for many years to come. One more thing. I saw a picture of you the other day after your victory at Quail Hollow and couldnt help but notice the watch you were wearing. Great looking watch my friend. I was wondering if you could fill me in on what kind it was? Anyways best of luck the rest of the season and go get em in the PGA championship and get that first major. Cheers.

Bryson Mayberry

Hi Bryson, a good start in Ireland so far! My watch is an Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore and it's an awesome piece of kit! They have their own website which is www.audemarspiguet.com which, if you're a real watch lover, will give you plenty to look at! Cheers, Rory.

Hi,Rory,I am a great fan of you. Each year a group of my friends follow you to the Honda Classic, hope to see you there this year. You did a fantastic come back at St.Andrews.ALL THE BEST John FRITZ

John Fritz

Hi Rory,Incredible first round in the Open.Pity the second round didnt go your way.Looking forward to seeing you play in the 3 Irish Open in Killarney.Best of Luck.

Colm Long

I just wanted to tell you that I am your biggest fan in the USA. I have followed your career since the first time I became aware of you. I want to thank you for playing in the St. Jude classic in Memphis, Tennessee. You brought a lot of joy to many young children. God bless you and may you achieve the success you so richly deserve. John

John Dougherty

Hi there John, thanks for the message - I really enjoyed the St Jude - the children there were great. Regards, Rory.

Hi Rory! Just one question...can I give you a hug?? I just wanted to reach out to you last Friday. You are a fantastic player and what a brilliant comeback!! Congratulations to you. Fiona.

Fiona Colgan

Hi Fiona - hug accepted!! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory. My name is Adam and I'm 9. I went to St. Andrews with my my mum and dad on the final day. Me and my mum got tshirts with GO RORS GO! printed on them and followed you round every hole. You played really well! Does the fans support help you when you are out on the golf course? Think you are a superstar! From adam.

Adam Wilson

Hey Adam, it's so fantastic that I get support like yours from fans and it definitely inspires me - nice one with the tee shirts!! All the best, Rory.

Gday Rory, Can you please let me know what Punt your Old Man had on you many years ago to win a British Open? Was is something like 10000-1? Cheers and Good Onya

Gavin Robertson

Hi Gavin, I'm not exactly sure! But I think it was something like 500-1 to win it before my 25th birthday! So it's still open! Cheers, Rory.

Rory, was the 2nd round at the British the toughest round that you've played in your career physically and mentally?? I must say it was incredible how you kept your composure while playing in a Scottish wind tunnel!!

Mike McNeff

Hi Mike, mentally yes it was definitely the toughest but I guess I've played in conditions like that before so physically maybe not! All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory!! Congrats on finishing 3rd at the Open!... it's really fun watching guys our age like you and Ricke doing sweet out there. Anyways, I was wondering what your favorite course is that you have played at this year? thanks! Kellen

Kellen Shields

Hi Kellen, thanks for the message. The favourite course I've played at this year is without doubt Quail Hollow! Cheers, Rory.

Congratulations on finishing 3rd. equal at St. Andrews. I always follow you and wish you the best of luck in the future. Yours, Maureen Connor (Mrs. of 77yrs!)

Maureen Connor

Hi Rory, I just want to congratulate you on the Open. What a finish I know that was a re-run for us fans and I look forward to the day when you lift that Claret Cup(many times). I watch you play every tournament possible and you are such an inspiration to all those young people out there. Have just found you will be playing at Loch Erne challenge on wednesday . Will follow it on the web. Well done bravo you are a legend. You make life worth living.I hope at least 1 young person can be inspired by your lifestyle. Sharon H

Sharon Hipwell

Hey! Well done at St Andrews. I am now a fan. You played amazing and I was so upset that I missed most the tournament because of work! Good luck on the next game and next time Ill be more organised. :D Love ya! Joanne xxx

Joanne Smith

This is more of a comment, but being from america,I woke up at 1 am on thursday and friday to watch you play in the british open, your golf game and swing is so amazing, I enjoy every second of of watching you golf, thanks Will Boatright

Will Boatright

Great round today you done us all proud Rory. Majors will come wif your game just keep positive and enjoy your golf mate! Well done

Stephen Rice

Hi Rory! Just thought I'd send a wee message to say that we (the girls on scoreboard 6) have all loved watching you play in St Andrews the last few days! It was my first time on the scoreboards and I have to admit I was slightly scared of getting everything wrong!! Anyway best of luck with everything - we're all rooting for you!

Alana Barrie

I have more of a comment than a question. Congratulations, awesome display of golf today at St. Andrews. You have great game. It won't be easy and many temptations will come your way, but I hope you handle those better than some that have gone before you. I was joking around with some friends and referred to you as the second coming of Bobby Jones. While I don't believe in such things, I do see some similarities in your game. Bobby Jones, while having to manage a wicked temper, matured into a gentleman that always showed great respect for his sport. You obviously have good people around you. If you're going to model yourself after anyone, hopefully it will be someone like Bobby Jones. Best of Luck to you at the Open and for a great career. Jesse

Jesse Arriaga

Hi Rory, keep the flag flying for us and go win that claret jug. Hope to see you playing in holywood sometime. We are all proud of you.

George Mussell

Just a quick comment. I left this comment on NBC blog about how several players on day 2 of the open did not grant interviews upon leaving the trailor to ESPN after a very frustrting day in the wind. Some were polite about it including Sir Nick and some were completely unapprachable including JD who busteda clay pot as he walked out. But I have to give you Kudos and say that you are mature beyond your years to grant an interview after shooting 17 strokes more than your opening day and leading score of 63. Not only did you do the interview, you were pleasant, positive and for lack of better words....didn't act like a pouting little kid! This 50 year old guy admires and respects you...you've got a new fan!

Steve Bryan

Hi Rory, wasn't it great to see the Gmac win the US open must have been great for him and for Irish golf in general?? Is it true your worst round at the old course is a "69"?? Keep up the good work and lift that claret jug!! all the best for this week!

Stephen Rice

Hi Stephen, it certainly was just awesome that Gmac won the US Open - great for Ireland, great for Europe and pretty inspirational all round! Yes it's true that my highest score around St Andrews to day is 69 - the best being 63!!! It's a good start for me this week and definitely puts me in the picture. Cheers, Rory.

15/07/10 great shot into the 17 th green today and great score

Wyatt Osment

hey, I recently viewed your CNN interview from 2009 I believe. I must say I am very impressed with your modestly and humbleness. I have met and seen many others with much less skill, and much greater egos. Your passion and perspective on life is a rare one to find, and I can only hope others with follow in your path.

Mmlook Michael Look

Hey Rory, nice try at the French you played unbelievable the last round!! Quick question, what are some putting drills that you do within 10 feet as I have been severly struggling with putting as in my last tourney i shot 80 with 41 putts, and of course play well at the British I'm rooting for you!!!!

Sameer Kalia

Hi Sameer, sorry to hear about your putting woes. A good drill is to practice putting with your eyes closed - this makes you really 'feel' the distance of the putt and also makes for a smooth stroke. Also putting one handed is a good drill. Good luck and hope your putts get less! All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, Now that you are a memeber of the PGA Tour do have a place in the US that you call home? Have you bought any home over here yet? Play tough at the British! Thanx in advance, Gene.

Gene Clatterbaugh

Hello Gene, no I don't have a place of my own in America just now, may be that's something to think about for the future. I'm really looking forward to the Open at St Andrews as I love that golf course! All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, I was wondering what was your average club head speed with the driver? Good luck at the French open! (I'll be there). Augustin

Augustin Goudet

Hi Augustin, my clubhead speed with the Driver is between 113 and 116 mph. Am looking forward to France! All the best, Rory.

Rory, mine is really more of a statement than a question. I went to the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, TN this weekend and followed you around on Friday. It is amazing to see how "mello" you seem out there. Thanx for the autograph and I wish you all the best in the future. It is nice to know that there are really good role models for my kids to look up too out there. Hit 'em straight and good luck. Michael K.

Michael Kirschbaum

Hi Michael, thanks for the cool message - I had a really great time in Memphis. Thanks for your support. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, my name is Quintin Page and I am 13 years old . Could you give me some tips on putting.

Quintin Page

Hi Quintin, thanks for sending in your question. With putting you must make sure that the putter you are using is the right length for you as amateurs generally tend to use ones that are too long. Before you make your putt make sure you have picked the correct line and have your putter aiming where you want the ball to go. Have your eyes directly over the ball and make sure you have a good smooth stroke, keep your head still and that's about it! Good luck, Rory.

Hey Rory, Congrats on the win a little while ago! Im usually about a 3 handicap and currently Im going through the biggest slump ever, as in im having trouble breaking 80:( Have you ever gone through this and what did you do and if you never did go through this what would u suggest to do?

Sameer Kalia

Hi Sameer, a slump in play can happen to anyone at any time. The worst thing you can do you can worry about it too much. Spend plenty of time on the range paying particular attention to your shots from 100 yards and in as these can really get you back on track again. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory. Just wanted to congradulate you on your amazing victory in Quail Hollow, your an awesome player. Would you have any advice how to help me to smoke the driver and get a good drive to set me up nicely for my next shot. Cheers, Matty

Matty McKee

Hi there Matty, thanks for the question. Most people are under the impression that you have to really smash it one to get a long drive. This really isn't the case at all! Firstly you must stand on the tee and pick out your target and then set up as you normally do. Try and keep a compact back swing and make sure they you have a good rhythym - a good tempo is key to getting good distance. Make sure you transfer your weight properly through your swing and have a nice follow-through. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory. Saw you at wentworth this week during your 3rd round. Was awesome to watch how you go about your business and I got your autograph also which was brilliant. Any tips you can give to a 16 year old playing off 8 who wants to make it big time?

Rory Penny

Hi Rory, glad you enjoyed Wentworth! The best piece of advice that I can give you is to firstly concentrate on your schoolwork and then practice as much as you can. Enter as many club events, open events and the like and just see how you get on. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory! Happy late birthday by the way! Since I was very young, I've had an immense interest in Irish History and I wanted to ask you a question somewhat related to that. So here goes, How big is golf in Ireland?

Andi Owens

Hi there Andi, golf is just huge in Ireland. We have some of the greatest links courses in the world here like Royal Portrush then Lough Erne where I am attached which is more inland. All year round we have loads of visitors from around the world coming to play the courses here - so it's big! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory,.. Great win,.. Wish you the best, and Happy Birthday! Great Putt at the 18th! Cheers, Line Dalile

Line Dalile

Congratulations Rory; we are only now calming down after the excitement. Best wishes from Pat & Tom Eakin Clandeboye to you, Gerry and your mum.

Tom Eakin

Congrats Rory on the win and happy birthday. Gonna be supporting you all the way this weekend!!

Anuj Radia

Watch out Tiger Wee Rorys on your tail!!! Great performance at such a tough course what a weekend everyone in the bar at Downpatrick golf club was going nuts with every shot you hit exciting to watch and this is just the start of your long career!! Happy Birthday know go win the 5th major... Stephen rice

Stephen Rice

CONGRATS on a magical tournament!!! Never change that sweet, smooth swing, reminds me of Couples or Snead. When are you coming to Hawaii??!!! Erin go Braugh!

Dennis McKenna

Happy Birthday Rory and congrats from all at Lough Erne. We had a great night on Sunday after your win.

Maurice Hetherington

Happy Birthday, Rory and a great win. Followed Graeme and yourself at the practise round of the Masters and got some great photo's. Yourself and Tom Watson were the only 2 players who took maybe 20 practised shots from the sand on number ?? hole. Watson loved Ireland for links golf and look at his career. Taking the break and playing Royal Co, Down and Portrush cleared your head.Try and visit Carne next time. I will see you at the Ryder Cup wearing the "Harp & Fiddle" hat. Enjoy the birthday celebrations. We are all very proud of you.

Tom Doyle

Hey Rory, Happy Birthday, and Congratulations on a great Weekend at Quail Hollow. It was so great to watch and I wish you continued success each and every week you play. My son, Gavin, is 9 and a big junior golfer and he really enjoyed watching. Keep it up!!!

Scott Noble

Nice job Rory! Go out there and win this week at TPC Sawgrass.

Riley Cronin

Hey Rory, congrats on your win I dont think I have ever seen anybody shoot such a low round on the final day. AMAZING ! I was just wondering what was your first set of golf clubs like and what age did you get them at? Hope to see play like that again soon and get a few more victories under your belt. Best Regards,Luke Walsh

Luke Walsh

Hi Luke, it certainly was an amazing Sunday! My first set of clubs was a cut down set of my Dad's - I got them when I was two! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory! Nice win last week at Quail and I hope you had a great Birthday. I was just wondering what is your favorite club to hit under pressure in a tournament? I was also wondering what shot shape do you like to hit the most?

Riley Cronin

Hi Riley, I think my favourite club under pressure would definitely have to be my putter and I'm really comfortable hitting both a fade and a draw. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, congrats on winning and on the post match interview. You must have been floating and to keep your head and not say something OTT was great to see. Made me proud to be an Ulsterman for once. Do you get any coaching in handling the press / interviews when the pressure is on eg after a big win or a big loss? Watched you since Walker Cup at Co Down. All the best for the Players. Robin.

Robin Leetch

Hi Robin, thanks for the message - it certainly was an awesome weekend. I think ISM were going to get me some media training but then they heard my interview after winning the Amateur Silver Medal in the Open Championship at Carnoustie and took the decision that I didn't need any! So that was a real compliment - I'm just me! Cheers, Rory.

Well done Rory! You make us all proud to be Irish. Have a wonderful birthday and enjoy the rest of the season.

Deirdre Geoghegan

Hey Rory, First of happy happy happy happy happy birthday! You are 21! That is an awesome number! I was celebrating your birthday all day while I was at school and I couldn't wait to come home to write you, wishing a very happy birthday. On another note YOU WON at Quail (haha like u dont know). But that was so exciting. I was jumping around my house when you won. It was the most exciting thing that happened this weekend. What a great way to start off May for you and also how it's so close to your birthday...even better. Have a happy birthday and congrats on a super win! Best Wishes! :) Emmy

Fantastic golf at Quail. The Monday Ladies at Holywood will be opening a bottle today, to celebrate, and also to celebrate your birthday!! The question is, when is your next win?? Cheers Sheelagh Davidson

Sheelagh Davidson

Hi Sheelagh and the Monday ladies!! Thanks so much for the message and hope you enjoyed your bottle, or bottles! Hopefully the next win won't be too far away!! Cheers, Rory

Wow man that was one hell of a weekend you had playing against the top players, and now you are one of those players, you have made history with the japannese sensation, You are one of the newer players that I like watching. With this win, do you think a new era opens where now the newer golfers are taking the light, such as you, ricky fowler, the japanese sensation, Adam Scott and much more rookies, and do you think now more of the younger players will win at a younger age?

Chayan Rodriguez

Hi there Chayan, it certainly was a great week for me at Quail Hollow! And a great week for Ryo in Japan shooting that 58! I do think the younger players will start to win more frequently as standards are just so high and we are all so very keen to do well and the work ethic is just so good. All the best, Rory.

Congrats Rory - it was absolutely fabulous to watch. Happy Birthday on Tuesday and good luck at Sawgrass. You will have to go some to beat my personal best round there - 12 under, (though I was sitting in Holywood playing with a Sega Megadrive at the time). Good Luck and hope to see you in Singapore later in the year. Garth McComb

Garth McComb

I saw you playing a relaxing few holes at Belvoir Park two weeks ago and thought that your decision to take some "time out" after Augusta would reap dividends - and it did! Brian

Brian McGuire

RORY! what can I really say other than how in awe I was at you're rounds Saturday and Sunday! You really amaze me and everyone who watches you! I must say, that put on 18 was very Tiger-like!!! You really give me something to look up to as I try to shape my career because you're so talented and such a gentleman!!! YOU ARE THE MAN! Thanks for everything, Ryan P.s. How many Emails are you getting now?!?!?

Ryan Sander

Conor Merrigan

congrats! I live in Charlotte and want to thank you for coming but for also being a great representative to the Tour. I spoke to once or twice around the putting green and came away impressed by your composure and how responsive to fans with autograph requests you were. Lee Westwood has always been the same in years past when meeting him in pinehurst and now Charlotte. I look forward to watching you for years to come. I am now pulling for you every week. Good luck at the Players and in all other events this year.

Rob Sadoff

Hi Rory, Magnificent win last night, they seem to love you in the USA. This is a bit of a strange one but I have seen you at Ravenhill watching the Ulster rugby team. Any chance you could buy us a scrum half for next season?!!! Anyway keep her lit for the rest of the season, look forward to watching more wins. Dave

Jane Vivian-Smith

Hi Rory. I have no question. Just wanted to say congratulations on your great win in the USA. I watched it on Sunday night and was cheering you on. Now you have done it once and know how it feels, keep doing it. We want more success!

Jamie Johnston

No question. Just had to say "Congratulations on your win at Quail Hollow!" We thoroughly enjoyed watching you play yesterday. My husband and I will be following you in person at the U.S. Open @ Pebble Beach. The best of luck to you there and in your career with the PGA.

Selma Hernandez

No question just a warm felt congrats on your incredible win at Quail Hollow. I knew it was just a matter of time and man, you did it in Style. Way to go Rory!! Oh and happy Birthday! Patrik from Dallas,TX

Patrik Mattle

Rory, congratulations on such an awesome win yesterday! As a fellow "Northern Irelander" I was very proud of you as I am sure all of Ireland was too. All the best for the future, Hilary Cargill

Hilary Cargill

Hi Rory! Not really a question, I just wanted to say what a fantastic round of golf. You bought tears of joy to my eyes. Have a fantastic birthday and then give it hell at 'The Players'.I look forward to watching you play many more rounds of fantastic golf. Eileen xx

Eileen Robbins

Hi Rory, Congrats on the win and a happy early birthday. You played great on Saturday and Sunday. Will Koras

Will Koras

One of the best looking swings I have seen in my seventy years. It looks totally natural, and not mechanical.

Richard Schmidt

congrats Rory, not a dry eye in our house, your our champ from your fans in Lurgan, bring on Sawgrass.Kieran McDonald

Hi Rory. Just wanted to say well done on your fabulous performance at Quail Hollow. Absolutely fantastic. Happy Birthday for tomorrow and good luck at Sawgrass. Chris Musson

Chris Musson

What a wonderful performance, Rory! You showed everyone how to play the game. It was thrilling to watch. I'd been telling everyone about you, and they told me "you were right!" When I was growing up, the Beatles came to America and took us by storm. There were Beatles t-shirts, notebooks, you name it. They even sold Beatles wigs! I was wondering if there'll be a Rory wig or perhaps a Jumeirah ballcap with the hair attached? It would make a great souvenir and you could even use it as a fund-raiser for your favorite causes. (Please don't cut your hair. It's the easiest way for some of us to identify you!) Cheers, kenn fong

Kenn Fong

Congrats on your first PGA Tour Win Rory!!! It couldn't happen to a classier young man as far as I'm concerned. The players that waited to congratulate you outside the clubhouse speaks volumes on how your are viewed amongst your peers. That was some of the most amazing golf I've seen in a long time. I hope we get to see you much more on the PGA Tour in 2010 and years to come.

Rob Canady

Hi Rory My husband & I are so thrilled with your wonderful victory on Sunday. Being originally from Carryduff I feel very proud of you for putting Northern Ireland on the map. My grandson met you some time ago at the Temple Golf Course and he treasures the glove you gave him. You are a great ambassador for your country & a pleasure to watch. Thank you for all you have done & good luck for the future. Jean & Roy Jordan, Sonoma, California

Jean Jordan

Hi Rory, You're the best! Always believed in you and always will! Happy 21st birthday next tuesday and the best of luck for Sawgrass. Will be watching you and cheering you on. Berni Fetherston.

Berni Fetherston

Hi Rory, just want to wish you the best of luck in all your upcoming events. I'm 14 and in the last 6 months my handicap has been cut from 17 to 7 although I still feel I am a lot better than that but struggle to get it down. Any tips on how I can get it down ? Thanks Jack.

Jack Ward

Hi Jack, well 17 to 7 in six months is really good progress so well done for that! The best way to get down even further is to really tighten up your short game and practice your shots from 100 yards and in - exactly what I'm working on at the moment! So good luck and hope it works. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, just want to say you always look stylish and well turned out on the course. Do you take your time picking your clothes or do you really care? Thanks, Cathal

Cathal Treacy

Hi Cathal, thank you very much for the compliment! I really do care about what I wear on the course and spend time thinking about my turnout on the course. Cheers, Rory.

Hi, Did You Ever Play In The Amateur Championship? If So, How Did You Do? What Was Your Exact Handicap When You Turned Pro? Cheers.

Jack McColm

Hi Jack, yes I did play in the Amateur Championship and got beaten in the first round by Danny Willett. My handicap when I turned pro was 4.2. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, just want to wish you the best of luck at the Masters! I have watched you practice this week in Augusta and want you to know I am inspired. I play golf at a University in East Tennesse, USA and am wondering how different it is being on Tour than being in school playing? We are the same age so I was wondering how much free time do you have and what you think about how far you have come, only being of 20 years. Best wishes, Brittany McCown

Brittany McCown

Hi Brittany, thanks very much for the message and I'm very happy that you're feeling inspired! I guess it's very different being on Tour - we have so much travelling to do and aren't in the same place for more than a week, and then there's stuff like washing to be sorted out! Obviously I try and manage my time very carefully so there's a good balance between golf time and leisure time. I'm very pleased that I've done so well so early in my career as you never know what's going to happen! Good luck with your golf. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, Hope all is well with you and yours. My question is on average about how much time do you spent at the range each week leading up to an event? Best of luck to you at the masters and I really enjoy your blog. Sincerely, John Price.

John Price

Hi John, generally speaking I'll arrive at a tournament on the Monday and do a bit of practice and then I'll play nine holes at least on the Tuesday and do a bit on the range and will play in the pre-tournament Pro-Am on the Wednesday which will be a full eighteen holes. Glad you enjoy the blog! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Firstly I want to congratulate you on your career to date, you give us young Irish golfers someone to look up to! What I really want to know is what thought is in your head as you are about to hit a shot as you always look so composed at address?? Best of luck in the masters!! Darren

Darren Enright

Hi Darren, to be honest, when I'm about to hit the ball I guess I'm just on auto pilot and do what comes naturally. I do all my thinking during my pre-shot routine. I'm really looking forward to getting back to Augusta again. Thanks for your support. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, I play at Clandeboye Golf club in Conlig and won that shirt that you sent for the Juvenile's day. The top is awsome and I'm glad I won it. I watch you all the time on T.V and wish you the best luck. hope to see you sometime in Clandeboye Good luck Ryan

Ryan Crawford

Hi Ryan, congrats on winning the top and really happy that you like it, well done! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, tough luck this week at acccenture... But you'll bounce back and start winning soon I'm sure! I would like to know who you looked up to as a young golfer and what your dream foursome would be. Thanks, Ryan

Ryan Sander

Hi Ryan, I most definitely looked up to Tiger in my formative years. I guess my dream foursome would be myself, Nelson Mandela, my dad and my best mate, Harry Diamond! All the best, Rory.

Rory, I was both surprised and excited to see how many events you're planning on playing this year here in the States on the PGA Tour (especially since I drafted you in my fantasy golf league). It appears you're playing enough to warrant Fedex Cup eligibility, so I'm guessing that's a big factor, but my question is 'what goals have you set for yourself for 2010 both for the PGA Tour, European Tour and in general?". Thanks and good luck reaching those goals, whatever they may be!

Jeremy Sousa

Hi Jeremy, my goals really for the year are to get into the top 5 of the World Rankings and to win more tournaments. I'm really looking forward to playing on the PGA Tour this year and can't wait for the Accenture to start this week. All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory, Good luck in your defence of your title this week, there really is a strong field this week but I am sure you will have a good chance of keeping the title. Me and my dad go on regular golf trips every year around the UK and I know your the touring pro of Lough Erne. Do you think the course is suitable to mid-high handicappers as well as pros like yourself? Good luck this week. Best Regards Will

Will Ford

Hi there Will, it wasn't to be for me in Dubai this week and a last round of 73 wasn't what I had in mind. It was a strong field and I think Miguel did great to win. Lough Erne is suitable for players of all standards of golf and I know if you went there you'd just love it - it's testing but fun at the same time - and the scenery is awesome - so I think you should definitely put it on your list! Have a great time. Rory.

Hi Rory. I've been following you since your amateur days. I also followed Tiger as an amateur and placed a £10 bet on him doing a grand slam in his first 10 yrs as a pro. Wow he was close! How about a McIlroy Grand Slam? I believe you have the ability. Maybe a few years away but, for now, which of the Majors is your favourite and which one sets up best for you? Good luck for 2010.

Mark Richards

Hi Mark, a McIlroy Grand Slam would certainly be pretty cool! This year I'm really looking forward to the Open Championship at St Andrews - it's one of my all time favourite courses and have performed well round there since I turned pro. All the best, Rory.

Howdy From Texas Rory! I'm a huge fan of all of the Irish men playing on the tour, being of Irish decent myself. I live in West Texas which is the most desolate part of Texas. There are no trees and the wind always blows. The majority of our courses are links style courses. Because you have a lot of experience in playing on the more extreme links what advice can you give on your approach shots to the green during these types of conditions and still maintain accuracy?

Paul Talley

Hi there Paul, it certainly sounds pretty way out where you live! When playing links courses that are windy a good shot to have in your bag is the low punch shot that can be created with a shortened backswing and shortened follow through and placing the ball slightly further back in your stance to take the loft off the club and this should give you a lower more penetrating shot. Happy New Year, Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory! Im a huge fan and being 17 and a very dedicated golfer you're a huge role model and someone to look up to! Just a general question about when you were about my age(not too long ago hah) or at the age where you started to see great success and a future with golf, what kinds of things and aspects of the game did you focus on the most? Or what parts of your game you felt were important to continue improving being successful? Thanks for your time!

Scott Meschnig

Hi Scott, I guess I realised that the shots from 100 yards and in were really important to get right - good short shots to the green (preferably next to the hole!) is the key to getting scores really low. I also concentrated very hard on my putting. Good luck with your golf and hope you have a great 2010. Cheers, Rory.

Hello Rory¡¡ I´m writing from Spain and you're my favourite golf player. I'm just 15 years old and my handicap is 1 and i'm thinking about changing my driver. What do you think abpout the Titleist 909 D3? I'm using the fairway wood 909 F3 and I love it and i wonder if the driver goes on the same line. And I also want to know if you do any concrete putting exercises.Could yo tell me how can I improve my putting skill without getting borried? Good luck for the next season and i hope to see you on the PGA tour. Spain loves you Rory, Merry Christmas and Happy new year¡¡

Jacobo López Malo

Hi Jacobo, the Titleist 909 D3 is a great club but as with all clubs remember to try before you buy! If you hit it the same as the F3 then it should go just the same. As for putting exercises - a good way to practice is one handed as this keeps things smooth and also standing on one leg - it really makes you keep your balance well. Have a great 2010, all the best, Rory.

Hi Rory! I am a HUGE fan! I saw you at the PGA Championship this year. Great job! I was just wondering if you like your job very much? Are you living the dream like most people would say you are? Is it hard traveling so much, or do you like golf so much that it doesn't matter!? Merry Christmas!

Adam Bilski

Hi Adam, do I like my job?? I love my job and count myself really lucky that my office is a golf course! When I first turned pro the travelling seemed a bit hard but now I'm used to it and it's just part and parcel of the best job in the world! Merry Christmas, Rory.

Hi Rory. Glad to read you are feeling better, I think you deserve the rest after what's happened to you. My Question is really important to me as I am only 10 years old. I won my first trophy this year playing golf in the under 14 Montrose (Scotland) open and have wondered how you progressed from my age to become a professional. Have a good rest and a good christmas I can't wait. Aidan

Aidan Smith

Hi Aidan, thanks! I was certainly in need of a rest and feel much better now. It's fantastic that you won your first trophy this year - well done for that. In order to progress and get better you really need to practice as much as you can and enter as many competitions as you can. If you do well in these you can then progress to count/national/international level as an amateur and it should all fall into place from there. Good luck and hope you have a great Christmas and New Year. Cheers, Rory.

Hey RORY, I have just started to take an interest in golf do you have and tips on getting better and what clubs to buy? Thanks Grant

Grant Robertson

Hi Grant, well I reckon the best course of action is to take some lessons with your local PGA pro who will introduce you to the fundamentals of the golf swing. He will also be able to advise you on which particular clubs suit your swing. Obviously I'm going to say Titleist clubs as I play them and they work really well for me! Hope you enjoy your golf. Happy Christmas, Rory.

Hi Rory!! Hello from India! I have a couple of questions for you regarding your short game..what wedge would you normally use from 30-40 yard pitch if you had a lot of green to work with? Also, how do you practice your putting, any drill that works well for you? Thank you so much for your blog, have a great holiday!

Adi Avadhanula

Hi Adi, generally speaking I'd probably use my sand wedge for that type of shot - it's just a club I feel comfortable with and wouldn't need the height of a lob wedge for that particular shot. I could perhaps use a nine iron and run it up - it just depends on the conditions and how I feel! A good putting drill is to stand on your left leg only - this makes you really balanced and still over the putts. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Cheers, Rory.

hi~RORY! Glad to meet you again~Today I have question which is: are you using a strong grip? or are you using a neutral grip? And how many knuckles u can see when you address. Have a great Christmas and happy new year also! thanks~KIM

Kim Jae Won

Hi there Kim, I have a neutral grip and I can see two knuckles at address. Hope you have a great Christmas. Rory.

Hello Rory, you have quickly become my favourite player to watch on the European tour and really enjoyed reading your blogs. My question is how do you spend your time off over Christmas. Do you put the clubs away completely and have a rest or continue to work on your game. Thanks

Jimmy Whitter

Hi Jimmy, am pleased you enjoy reading the blog - it's a great way of telling you all what I've been doing! I'm in South Africa at the moment and have been away from home for nine weeks or so and I can't wait to get home! Over Christmas I'll be spending time with my family, seeing all my mates, having a few nights out, looking after my dog, Theo - who's probably forgotten what I look like by now and generally do some serious chilling out! If the weather's ok I'll got and do a bit of practice but won't really start doing a lot until the New Year to get me warmed up for my first tournament in Abu Dhabi. Hope you have a great Christmas, Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, saw you each day at the Walker Cup at RCD in 2007. Very well played indeed. As someone who has played this course a lot I was wondering what is your best score there? Be that in competition or not. Congrats on the season this year and all the best. Jack

Jack Nelson

Hi Jack, thanks for the message. The Walker Cup seems such a long time ago now!! My best score round Royal County Down is 65. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, hello from France. Congratulations to you and to Graeme for your 2nd place in Mission Hills. You played very well and I hope that Colin Montgomerie will select you for the Ryder Cup because you form a beautiful pair. Good luck for the end of the year. Pauline

Pauline Pereira

Hi Pauline, me and Graeme certainly enjoyed ourselves trying to win the World Cup and it was disappointing to finish second but we will have plenty more opportunities! It certainly would be fantastic to play in The Ryder Cup under Monty's captaincy and be partnered with Graeme in 2010. All the best for Christmas and the New Year. Rory.

Hi Rory, congratulations on an amazing year, and good luck for next year in the US! I was just wondering whether you'll still be playing at all in europe next year? Its great to see you do your stuff regularly on TV, and I was hoping to see you play at the European PGA at Wentworth, do you think you'll be there? Thanks, Caspar

Caspar Paxton

Hi Caspar, thanks for that - I've really enjoyed my golf this year and hopefully next year will be even better. I will be playing both European and PGA Tours next year and at this stage the PGA Championship at Wentworth is on my schedule for next year. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, just wanted to say welcome to South Africa. Hope you enjoy our hospitality and our beautiful country. Play well and good luck with the Nedbank Challenge. I wanted to know if you are going to take time out to see some of the sights? Look forward to seeing you in Sun City....

Mark Macdonald

Hi Mark, so far so good! This Sun City is a pretty awesome place! I was meant to go for a Game Drive yesterday but have a bit of a cold so took to my bed instead! I know that we are going to a Beach Party and a Braai in the bush whilst we are here so that will be fantastic. I'm really looking foward to the week. Cheers, Rory.

Well done Rory, you played great, Lee was just unstoppable. You'll burn up the States next year. My question to you is about jet lag. My previous job involved a lot of travel, sometimes to the far east. It always took me nearly a full week to adjust and stop falling asleep at 5pm. How do you cope with it? Niall, Lurgan.

Niall Creery

Hi Niall, Thanks for the message - yes Lee was fantastic - he had to play the best golf of his life to beat me and he did just that. As for the jet lag - I think it's something you kind of get used to - when travelling I try to sleep at the right times on the aeroplane and that seems a good way of adjusting. Generally we arrive at the tournament venue on the Monday so have a few days to re-adjust. Regards, Rory.

Hey Rory. Good luck in Dubai this week. When you gear up for a big tournament, what types of practice shots do you find to be most important to help you have a great performance on the course? Michael, Minneapolis, MN USA

Michael Brink

Hi Michael, it just wasn't to be for me in Dubai this week - Lee played just fantastic and really deserved the win. I think for any tournament I do spend quite a bit of time on the 100 yards and in shots as these can make such a difference in your scoring. Regards, Rory.

Hey dude, well played today. Would be great if yourself and Lee get paired up together over the weekend....!!! Nothing better than knowing what you have to do to beat somebody and you've both excelled in matchplay. Hope its the start of a hot putter!!! Best Wishes, Sean, Dublin

Sean Clancy

Hi Sean, thanks! I'm definitely paired with Lee in the first round in the Dubai World Championship as we go out in the order of our current R2D standings so I'm really looking forward to it! Cheers, Rory.

Hi it is pj. Ive seen you have changed putter. Could you please tell me what type it is? Thank you P.J

Pj Meaney

Hi PJ, well spotted! I've gone back to my old faithful! It's a Scotty Cameron Fastback Prototype - it certainly felt great in Shanghai. Cheers, Rory.

Well done Rory you're a great advert for our wee country. Saw you at Lough Erne and can't wait to stay and play there. Now what's your favourite links and parkland courses in Northern Ireland.excluding Hollywood, Lough Erne, Portrush, and Royal County Down. Thanks.

Mark Toman

Hi Mark, Lough Erne's just fantastic and you'll definitely have a great time when you go there. Now then, courses - I think the best parkland would be Belvoir Park and the links would be Ardglass. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory Congratulations on your success this year and being number 2 going into Dubai Finals. It's great to see someone so young to have the poise and charisma you do. Is there any particular American golfer you like playing with? Also is there a particular course other than Dubai that you haven't played that you would like to play?

Danny Lanoue

Hi Danny, thanks for the message - I shall be pointing out to Darren that you think I have poise and charisma and that I learnt it all from him!! Seriously though - I like playing with all the guys from the US - playing with Phil Mickelson in the first two rounds of the HSBC was fantastic and he's a really top guy. I've also played quite a few rounds with Anthony Kim this year and we always have a bit of fun out on the course. The one course that springs to mind that I haven't played but would love to play is Pine Valley. Regards, Rory.

whats your favourite kind of music?

Mark Foreman

Hi Mark, am into Hip Hop and Funky House! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Congratulations on making it to the top spot in the Race to Dubai, good luck for the rest of the season and I hope you can keep on top. I think its great seeing someone around my age compete with the best in the world and beating them, just makes you think what you can achieve if your prepared to work hard. A strange question, who has the best tattoo out on tour? Who's the most tattooed out on tour? Do you have any tattoos yourself and if so what? Cheers.

Craig McDonald

Hi Craig, as of now I'm number two after Lee winning in Portugal at the weekend but we're playing the same events for the rest of the season so will be keeping my eye on things. Interestingly enough I don't know anyone on tour who has a tattoo although I'm sure there must be a few - I don't have one! All the best Rory.

Hi Rory, Well done for reaching number 1! Absolutely on fire at the moment. I was wondering what make the watch is you wear, the black one with the yellow face? Keep it up. Miles

Miles Hooton

Hi Miles, thanks for that - will be trying to stay there now! My watch is made by Audemars Piguet and it's a Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph and I absolutely love it. You can check out their stuff on the website which is www.audemarspiguet.com. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, hard luck not winning in Scotland but at least your in pole position for the first ever Race to Dubai. Just asking how much do you put your success down to Titleist. Good Luck, Cathal.

Cathal Treacy

Hi Cathal, even though I didn't win at the Dunhill it's a great feeling to be number one in the Race to Dubai and I hope to build on that in the coming weeks. It was also fantastic to have played with my Dad and he had the best birthday ever! Titleist equipment is fantastic and really suits my game - I also played Titleist as an amateur - so they've definitely been very instrumental in my success. All the best, Rory

WELL DONE RORY. That day when you can really bask in your own sunlight just keeps getting closer and closer. Keep it going. You're making us all proud. - JIM McDOWELL

Jim McDowell

Hi Jim, thanks for message! I really had a great week in Scotland and it was seriously great to play with my Dad in the tournament. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, as someone who hits the ball so close to the pin so often I'm sure you must have at least one hole-in-one on you CV!!. Do you?

Gerry Harney

Hi Gerry, as a matter of fact I do! I think I've had about five or six over the years! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Congrats on your success. Its is fun watching you rise up ranks, very quickly I might add. My question today is when you control the ball flight and placement, do you control this with your follow through or??? Thanks Steve h. for Nova Scotia Canada.

Steve Hines

Hi Steve, thanks for the message. Controlling the ball flight and placement doesn't come from the follow though as the ball is already on it's way. You really control the ball flight and everything by length of backswing, ball position and then how far up or down the shaft you grip the club - if you want a lower shot you grip more down the shaft. Cheers Rory.

Hiya Rory! You're playing really well at the minute and a big congratulations on your win at Lough Erne in July, I was there and it was brilliant, one of the best birthday presents I ever got! Anyways, random question, what's your favourite film?

Sarah Fagan

Hey Sarah, what a great birthday present you got!! Really enjoyed playing that match and especially winning it too! My favourite film is Batman The Dark Knight! All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory! Been glued to the TV watching the matchplay.. With you playing Titleist and McDowell Callaway how did you come to the conclusion of using the Callaway ball rather than the Titliest? Marty Orme.

Marty Orme

Hi Marty, good question! In professional team golf you play a two ball rule so all we did was in the greensomes I hit a Gmac's Callaway off the tee and then Gmac hit my Titleist off the tee and then whoever had the second shot in always had an iron shot with their own ball so sometimes I would have my Titleist hitting into the green and Gmac would have his Callaway though if Gmac missed the green with his Callaway I then had to chip with it as that's the way greensomes work. And then in the foursomes it's the same thing so if I was hitting the tee shot I'd hit Gmac's Callaway so he could hit his ball to the green and if he was hitting the tee shot it would be the other way round! So in effect we both played our own balls which you are allowed to do in team events as professionals. Hope that clears it up for you! All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory What is your target world placing by the end of 2010? Congratulations on a fabulous performance in the Vivendi. Looks like you could be #1 in the singles at celtic manor. I wonder will the yanks have the guts to put Tiger out against you. By then I reckon you will be well raedy for him. Bryan

Bryan Somers

Hi Bryan, I think that my goal as far as the World Rankings for the end of 2010 would be top 5 and I'll be working hard to get there. If I play may into the Ryder Cup team for Celtic Manor there's nothing I'd like more to play against Tiger! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory just like 2 say there couldn't be a better person in the spot light for the up 'n' coming in the future of pga golf what a credit to the game you are and we have got another contender against the Americans. Just like to ask what was your handicap when you turned pro? Hope to see you world number 1 soon and holding a major title with many more to come. Many thanks Danny.

Danny Wall

Hi there Danny, thanks for the compliments and I certainly hope to be taking a major one day! When I turned pro my handicap was plus six! Regards, Rory.

Hi Rory, I'm 13 and I admire the way you take on the big experienced players with no fear. I have two questions. 1. Why do you always wear purple? and 2. I only started playing golf since I was 11. I play pitch and putt all the time but I want to get better at things like driving. What do I do? Keep up the good work, Cathal.

Cathal Treacy

Hi Cathal, the reason I wear purple a lot is I really like the colour! If you want to get better at the long game I reckon you should go and have some lessons with your local pga professional who will really be able to help you with this. Good luck, Rory.

To Rory, Hello from America!!! Congratulations on all of your success. A junior golfer myself, I look up to you as someone whose junior, amateur and professional career I want to replicate and someone I want to be just like. I can't wait to see you win a major, and I know that's gonna be pretty soon! Keep it up, Rory, I can't wait to see you at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year! Best Regards, Casey Rebmann

Casey Rebmann

Hi Casey, Hello from Ireland!! Thanks for the message and I'm certainly looking forward to the US Open next year. Hope your golf goes well for you. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, what is your favourite beverage and your favourite food? Thanks. David

David S.

Hi there David, easy this one! My favourite food is definitely my mum's Irish Stew - it's just brilliant. As for my favourite drink, a nice cold glass of milk! All the best, Rory.

Hi, Rory. I'm your fan of Korean. I saw your final round play. It's was my as gallery. Thanks to you, I was really fun and excited. and Congratulation! though Nothing happend to you, you were T3. I really like your play. and that day's your driver shot was sooo good!:) if you have chance to come to Korea to play games, will you come? I hope so!

Sadie Yoo

Hi Sadie, thank you for your message and I'm really glad that you enjoyed your first golf tournament watching in the gallery. Korea is a wonderful place and I really enjoyed myself there and I am sure if the opportunity arises I will return. Cheers, Rory.

Hi rory! compliments for the last tournament at the European Masters. I only want to ask you why did you go to play in Korea when the other important players were playing in Europe or in America? good luck for the next tournament..veronica

Veronica Mochi

Hi Veronica, I went to Korea as it was a really good opportunity to play with Danny Lee and Ryo Ishikawa, the three of us have big futures ahead and plenty of rivalry! It was also great experience to go and play in Asia. Regards, Rory.

Wow! Incredible! 7 under final round at the European Masters. You never fail to amaze. One of these days all of that talent is going to bust loose and the world is really going to see the next one. Your day in the sun is coming. Keep it going. - JIM McDOWELL

Jim McDowell

Hi Jim, thanks for the congrats - I was pleased to finish so well in Switzerland with a 64. Am looking forward to my day in the sun!!! Cheers, Rory.

Rory I was in class and we were doing a quiz and the teacher asked the class. Who is third in the Race to Dubai? I answered with joy. Rory McIlroy! P.J Meaney

Pj Meaney

Hi Pj, glad you got the answer right!! I hope you won the quiz! Cheers, Rory.

hey rory!! hope you are good!! well i am a 3 handicaper but my lowest score ever is an even par round, it seems that everytime that I am playing well i tend to loose the focus in the last 3 holes and ruin my score right there...do you have a tip to mantain the concentration during golf rounds?!?! it would really help me to get to the next level... thank you!! and good luck in your next tournament!!

Jorge Herrera

Hi Jorge, it sounds to me that if this is just happening towards the end of a round that you may be getting dehydrated and also not keeping your enery levels up which in turn boosts concentration. Make sure you drink lots of water or isotonic drinks and nuts and bananas are great for snacking on to keep yourself going. Good luck. Rory.

HELLO RORY, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO THE NEXT GREAT IRISH GOLFER? I'M SURE YOU HAVE HAD A BLAST PLAYING WITH SOME OF THE BEST GOLFERS IN THE WORLD, ESPECIALLY YOUR FELLOW COUNTRYMAN. SECOND QUESTION, HOW ARE THE CROWDS DIFFERENT FROM AMERICA TO EUROPE? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, GREGORY P. KELLY.

Gregory Kelly

Hi Gregory, thanks for the message - I must say it feels amazing to be playing with all the people I've spent years watching play golf and count myself really lucky. It's great to be playing with Darren, Gmac and Paul McGinley and they've all been an inspiration to me. The main difference between the crowds in America and Europe is that the ones in America are a lot louder which certainly makes an atmosphere out there! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, Ross here, if you were stranded on an island and you could only have one thing with you, what would it be??

Ross Campbell

Hi Ross, didn't have to think about the answer too long - it would most certainly be a Helicopter!!! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory! I followed your group on the Tuesday practice round and carried the standard in your group during tournament play at Bridgestone. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful experience. You are one of my favorite players and a big inspiration and I can't wait to continue following you're career. Also, congratulations on your third place at the PGA championship! I really hope I'll get to see you at Bridgestone next year! I also wanted to ask you what kind of weight training you do in the off season because I really want to get some extra power in my swing. Thank you!

Sarah Rachul

Hi Sarah, thanks for writing in - things definitely improved for me at Hazeltine and it was great to be back in contention and on the leaderboard again. I certainly hope to be back at Firestone again next year. The best thing to work on in the off season is your core stability as this is the area you really need to work on - the gym ball is the thing for this and you can do a variety of exercises on it for your oblique muscles. Good luck, Rory.

Rory, that was a magnificent performance at the PGA. Your day in the sun keeps getting closer and closer, and your legions of fans can't wait. Ever think of changing your citizenship? Canada needs you. JIM McDOWELL

Jim McDowell

Hi Jim, thanks for that - was really pleased with my golf at Hazeltine and after having a double at the first on day four it was a good feeling to have bounced back from that and been in the mix. I shall be remaining Irish!!!! Cheers, Rory.

Rory, My family and I were out at Hazeltine today for the Monday practice round. You were very personable and took time for pictures and autographs....something a lot of your competitors were unwilling to do...even on a Monday. Question: At this point in your career, it sure seems like more fun than business. Do you think that will ever change? Regardless, I've got an eight year old junior golfer who is now a big Rory McIlroy fan. Good luck this week!

Barry Gisser

Hi Barry, it's great that you had such a good day at Hazeltine. I always try and sign stuff - I remember not so long ago asking for autographs myself!!! Golf is fun but at the end of the day it's my job and I do take it seriously and I hope when I play golf there will always be a fun aspect to it but primarily it's my career. Glad your son is now looking out for me! Cheers, Rory

Hey Rory, my name is Joe and I am a professional Golfer in Arizona. I love your swing and my coach and I have been working on your positions. First is how do you get your club so square at the top? Second is what is your key swing thought when you are hitting it good?

Joe Lawson

Hello Joe, well I think my wrist angle is very good - it's not cocked and it's not bowed it's very square and I think whenever I take the club away I just think about setting it with my wrist. I've never really concentrated on getting it there - it just goes there naturally and everyone tells me that it's one of the squarest positions. My key swing thought is to keep the club out in front of me as I have a tendency drop it on the inside on the way down so I try and make sure that the first move on the way down I'm getting my left knee out of the way, not letting it go towards the ball but setting it so that I can get the club in front of my body so I've got a lot of room to hit it. Hope it helps! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, what do you think are the most important mental skills that help you to perform so well and how did you develop those? Thanks a lot and have a good one.

Jon Walsh

Hi Jon, what's most important on the mental side is not getting ahead of yourself, thinking about the next hole etc and just concentrating on the shot that you have to play. Also having positive thoughts is key to playing good golf - for example if you're playing a hole where there's water up the left and stand on the tee and think don't hit it left, the tendency is that the last word your brain has taken in is the word left so left it goes!!! So using that example with the water on the left of the hole, your last thought should be to keep the ball on the right so you're thinking about where you want to hit it and not where you don't want to hit it! On the developmental side of acquiring these skills I read Bob Rotella books - and in fact still do - and also it just comes with experience of playing a lot of golf and knowing what's best for you. They way I think on the golf course may not necessarily work for someone else so I guess it's each to their own. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory, big fan of you i always watch you on the tour whenever your playing and i pretty much try to mimic my swing to yours. I feel my backswing and everything is the same as yours but when i start my down swing i tend to slide my hips a little to much and it can result in fat shots and as a result im stuck on a 12 handicap at the moment and its impossible to to go through a full round without hitting fat shots. I really hope you give me some advice as i don't have any money for lessons and i really need the help. Thanks rory for reading my message.

Graham Dunne

Hi Graham, if your backswing is as good as you say then the only thing that I can suggest you try is to hit balls with your feet together, this is a really good drill, because with your feet together you can't slide your hips at all and will keep your balance well, keep you centred and give your swing consistency so you can get into the back of the ball every time and not hit so many fats! Good luck, Rory.

Hey Rory, i saw your picture on the cover of Golf Digest. where did you get that belt buckle from and what is it. to me it looks like python skin.

Matthew Peacock

Hi Matthew, I got the belt from Harvey Nichols in Dubai - it's made by Philip Klein and it's some sort of skin but not sure exactly what. Am getting a new one this week from 'Bob the Belt' who has made be a buckle with a really cool 'R' on it! I met Bob through Darren Clarke who also has a bit of a passion for a belt or two!! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, what were your first set of clubs and when did you eventually get sponsored by Titleist?

Brendan Butler

Hi there Brendan, my first proper set of clubs were Mizuno ZP's with graphite shafts which were actually ladies club which is what I needed then because I think I was about 7 or 8 years old at the time! As an amateur Titleist provided me with clubs and balls from when I was about 14 but wasn't properly sponored by them until I turned pro. All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory, First off, well done for the Duel on the Lough. Great to see you win again. Was kind of hoping you'd take the Claret Jug this year but there's always a next time, eh? Anyways, when you're not golfing, what do you spend your time doing? Cheers, take care.

Alex Sehgal

Hi Alex, I really enjoyed the day at Lough Erne and it was even better to come out on top! Turnberry was tough this year but it was a good learning curve and I can't wait for St Andrews next year - it's one of my favourite courses ever! When I'm not golfing I just do normal stuff - watch tv, go out with my girlfriend Holly, look after our new puppy Theo, go out with my mates, play a bit of football, the odd game of tennis, and just generally be me!! Cheers, Rory.

Hello Rory, i saw at the BMW in Munich your headcover St.Bernard. when and where can i buy it? regards from Germany. jw

Jirka Wangnick

Hi there Jirka, the headcover is from a company called Winning Edge, their website is www.winningedgedesigns.com and they've got loads of cool stuff on there. Cheers, Rory.

Dear Rory, This is not a question, but a very big thank you for taking time out to speak to the lads in the practice ground on Tuesday at Turnberry. These young men are in remission from cancer treatment and the time you spent with them was probably the highlight of their year. So sorry that you didn't lift the Claret Jug, but next year? Many, many thanks. Jill Kirkwood

Jill Kirkwood

Dear Jill, it was an absolute pleasure to chat to those seriously brave lads at Turnberry and they were great. Am looking forward to next years Open already - St Andrews is awesome! Kind regards, Rory.

Dear Rory FROM SANTIAGO OF CHILE WE WISH YOU THE BEST OF THE SUCCESSES IN THE 138th OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP THIS IS YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!......... WE ALL SUPPORT YOU.................

Pablo Ramirez

Heya! Outside of Royal County Down and Royal Portrush what would you consider the best club in Northern Ireland? And also what's the lowest scores you've shot round Holywood and Bangor? We'll be cheering for you at the Open this week :)

Marty Orme

Hi Marty, easy one to answer - has to be Lough Erne - it's absolutely brilliant! My lowest recorded round Holywood is 64 but one day I was 8 under and missed out three holes and if I'd made pars there it'd have been a 61. Round Bangor I've never kepy my score. Really looking forward to this week - cheer loud! All the best, Rory.

Hey Rory! I'm 15 and a huge fan and really love the way you play and your attitude towards the game. You're truly fantastic! Congrats on all your success so far, and i'm sure you'll be no 1 soon!! I play to an 8 handicap, so im pretty close to my goal of consistent 70's by the summer's end, but i just cant seem to break 80 lately. Now i know you were probably doing this by age 8 or 9, but do you have any suggestions on how to be a consistent 70s golfer? any help is much appreciated! Good Luck at the Open!! Ryan

Ryan Sander

Hi Ryan, thanks for the message. You must remember that your short game is really important to lower your scoring. You really need to practice those shots from 100 yards and in as these make such a difference to your scores when you can get it up and down. Good luck and enjoy your golf. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory..Best of luck in the Open next week!! I was just wondering when your at a tournament do you stay in a hotel or do you rent out a house?? And after each round you play on tour what do you do for the rest of the day!! Thanks

Gavin Young

Hi Gavin, it just depends really. Last week at Loch Lomond and this week at the Open Championship we have rented a house/apartment but quite often we stay in hotels too. If I've got a morning start time I'll have some lunch and maybe hit a few balls and practice a few putts and then I'll probably go back to where I'm staying - watch a bit of tv or a film, catch up with emails and stuff, and that's about it unless I have any commitments from sponsors which always come first. All the best, Rory.

Rory, the winner of the Scottish Open never wins the Open Championship. You are right on schedule. Turnberry here we come. JIM McDOWELL

Jim McDowell

Hi Jim, just love that positive thinking! Am really looking forward to this week. Cheers, Rory.

According to your interests, you say you really like music. If you had to choose, at this moment, what are your top five favorite songs? Next year is my sophmore year and I'm starting (spot 5) for the varsity team. I played exhibition this year and I constantly got frustrated at myself for not playing to the best of my ability, or at least what I hoped I could do. Have you ever just wanted to drop your clubs and crawl into a hole when you mess up on a shot you think should have ended differently? If so, what do you do to avoid that feeling and keep your mind on the game. Good Luck at the Open, you did well at the practice round that I saw.

Kirsten Parisen

Hello Kirsten, I know it's taken me a long while to answer this question - but the answer required a lot of thought!!! Right - my five favourite songs at the moment are: Poker Face by Lady Gaga, Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal, You're Not Alone by Calvin Harris, Beggin' by Madcon and Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon. I don't think I've ever felt that bad but I'm sure I know what you mean! I just try and focus on my tempo and rhythym and trust my swing and if I'm feeling a bit under pressure I do use breathing techniques which help focus the mind. Good luck with your golf, Rory.

Hey Rory, everyone knows that your not a short hitter and your distance control and ball flight is thought upon as perfect in many different ways, but something which i have always wanted to know is, what are your club distances?... Paul Taylor

Paul Taylor

Hi Paul. Interesting question and here goes! Lob Wedge - 90 yards Sand Wedge - 108 Pitching Wedge - 130 9 Iron - 145 8 Iron - 160 7 Iron - 175 6 Iron - 190 5 Iron - 205 4 Iron - 215 3 Iron - 225/230 5 Wood - 250 3 Wood - 275 Driver - 300 That's it! Cheers, Rory

Rory, I have followed you closely since you came on tour and have noticed after looking at your swing that you have great torso flexibility. I have also noticed this characteristic among several of the big hitters on tour. I was wondering what kind of exercises are needed to achieve this? - Chris Murray

Chris Murray

Hi Chris, the 'core' is such a vital body part in the golf swing. My trainer/physio Cornel Driessen really helps me out here - we do a range of excercises using the exercise ball which specificaly target the core area muscles - there are too many to mention here but I reckon if you did a quick internet search on this you'd find them. Good luck, Rory.

Rory, out of all the Irish golfers who do you look to for help and guidance on tour?? Good luck in the open... Stephen Rice

Stephen Rice

Hi Stephen, Darren Clarke's been fantastic with me ever since I first met him and we've been pretty good mates since then and he's always there for me if the need arises. I also get great support from my manager, Chubby - he definitely keeps me on the straight and narrow! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Other than golf ,what are your main interests? If not a golfer, what would you like to be doing? Tim Glidden

Tim Glidden

Hello Tim, good question! When I'm not playing I like to hang around with my mates, play football, tennis some times and of course play with our new dog, Theo, who's a black Labradoodle and is just gorgeous. I really love cars as well and have just treated myself to a Ferrari F430 which is just awesome! Hey, maybe I could have been a racing driver - I do like watching the Formula One as well! Kind regards, Rory.

Rory, my name is James Doyle and i would just like to thank you for a ball you gave to me at the Irish open in Baltray, I know that you would ot think much of it but it was an unbelievable moment for me because I followed you around for the whole round on the friday I was the kid with the cream masters 2009 hat and I was so happy when you handed me the ball. I would also like to thank your caddie for being so nice to me because caddies don't get enough credit for what they do, and by the way do you change the number and mark of your ball because the last one I saw on tv was different to the one I have on my shelf in my bedroom. Thanks again. James Doyle

James Doyle

Hi there James, so glad you were happy with the ball - and yes I do mark them differently - guess it just depends - some times I mark them with dots and some times with a line! I also generally use high numbers like 6,7 and 8. Will pass the message on to JP, he's a great guy and a brilliant caddy. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, Just wondered if you have started trying out some new irons in advance for 2010 due to the new groove rule and whether your ZM's/Vokey's are affected or not? Regards, Nigel

Nigel Sheridan

Hi Nigel, I'm not trying anything at the minute but maybe when I have a bit of time off November/December time will have some tryouts then. All my Titleist stuff is effected so I'll need to change grooves and will probably need to change ball as well. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory you are my golfing idol I really want a cap like yours but how can I get one ??

Jack Smith

Good news Jack! We will be selling them on the website very shortly! So you will be able to buy one when they are available. Regards, Rory.

Dear Rory, I don't play golf, but I enjoy watching it and reading about the players. You're inspiring because of your sportsmanship and your ability to focus. I look at your scorecards and shake my head when I see how well you shake off a bad round and finish strong, as you did at the Masters and the U.S. Open. You inspire me to do the same in my everyday life. Now my question: When you are travelling to a tournament, are you able to spend any time sightseeing and enjoying the area near the venue? If you come to San Francisco, I can recommend some good Chinese restaurants! Good luck, kenny fong

Kenny Fong

Hi Kenny, unfortunately when travelling around I don't really get much time to myself at all. When we arrive at a tournament there's all the press stuff to do and then practice rounds and range practice and then you're into the tournament, so sight seeing's a bit out of the window! Literally! I do like a good Chinese meal though! Kind regards, Rory.

Take a bow Rory. An amazing performance at the U.S. Open. Tied for 10th and only 6 shots behind the winner is something to be very proud of. You've taken yet another significant step forward. "Rory's Regiment" couldn't be happier. Now on to Turnberry. This is getting good. JIM McDOWELL

Jim McDowell

Hi Jim, thanks for the message - it was just great to have a top ten at a Major. Can't wait for Turnberry! Cheers, Rory.

Rory, as soon as you turned pro, in 2007. I haven't stopped watching you and supporting you, you're my idol. You're 20 and your're a professional golfer, but what did you do to become a professional golfer?....I'm 14 years old and and my life long dream is to be classified as a professional golfer. I'm shooting middle 70's to low 80's, do you think I cant make it, with a lot of practice and comitmant? Andrew Thanks, Rory

Andrew Valente

Hi Andrew, I just worked really hard on my game from a young age and it was really brilliant as my parents supported me and allowed me to do this. If you really want something in life, provided you put in the time and effort and have some talent then it's achievable. If you're shooting mid 70's to low 80's at age 14 that's pretty good. Remember to practice your shots from 100 yards and in as these make such a difference to your scores. Good luck and I hope things work out for you. Cheers, Rory.

Well done Rory in qualifying for the final two rounds. 2 questions--what happened to you on the 1st hole (your tenth) in the first round. Second question -do you think you can catch Gmac as i have backed you to be the top Irishman. John Maher

John Maher

Hi John, glad you won your bet!!! Was really pleased to finish in the top ten at Bethpage. If it's the situation I think you mean - it did take quite a while to tee off on that hole! The crowd were chanting Rory Rory Rory to start with and then some chap who'd obviously had a bit too much to drink threw up, but then regained his composure and continued to join in with the proceedings! Very amusing! Regards, Rory.

Hello Rory, I am new to this web site and this is my first post. I just wanted to say I think you are great for the sport of golf. I enjoy watching you play, but your attitude on and off the course is second to none. That is very refreshing in this day and age. I have one question for you. Do you have a mental "warm up" routine that you go through before a tournament that helps you deal with the noisy spectators, cameras, and other distractions that you face while playing in the public eye? I play in some local and charity events, and have a terrible time with nerves when I get up on the first tee in these tournaments. Any advice here would be very welcome. Also good luck in the U.S. Open. I look forward to watching and cheering you on. God Bless. Jim White

Jim White

Hi there Jim, thanks for the message and glad you found my website! I guess before a round I just get myself in the 'zone' and I don't really get fazed by the crowds and the noise etc. Camera clicking can be a nuisance as you can only hear it when it's quiet! But other than that I just go about my business and concentrate on what I'm doing. I do think we all suffer a bit from first tee nerves but remember it's only one shot and you can then get on with the rest of your game. Good luck, Rory.

Hi Rory I play in a junior tour in michigan. The last three tournaments i've played in the kids i've played with have cheated. What should I do if other kids keep knocking shots of there scores illegally? Thanks for being a great idol, Nick marsh

Nick Marsh

Hi Nick, how disappointing it was to read your message - I am so surprised when this kind of thing happens but it does. I think if it was me in that situation I'd ask them if their maths is right and if they still don't get it right I'd go and have a word with the tournament organisers. Golf is a game of honour and if people start bending the rules at a young age then it's really not good and can lead to a lifetime of bad habits. Good luck with your golf. Rory.

Rory, I am a Lough Erne member & looking forward to watching your match with Padraig Harrington in July. How well do you know him and how competitive will the match be? He seems to be very competitive! You are putting Lough Erne on the map! All the best for the US Open. Michael

Michael Moore

Hi Michael, I'm really looking forward to the match too! I know Padraig pretty well and I can assure that it will definitely be competitive!! I'm really looking forward to the US Open next week and have been practising hard in preparation. Regards, Rory.

Hey Rory! I just wanted to say thanks for the advice that you gave me for my competition! It really helped as my first hole of the competiton was really bad, but I managed to remember your advice and bounce back! I wanted to thank you sooner but i had to go and catch up with all my schoolwork after! :( I thought i would tell you how I got on and I scored 87, 84, 85 to give a total of 256! I came second, but I was still happy! I played over Gullane Links No. 2, and I am a local. You should really come and play golf in East Lothian because it has a lot of amazing courses including famous Muirfield! Thanks for your advice, Nandini

Nandini Nagra

Hey Nandini, well done you for coming second, especially after having a tricky start, that's fantastic. Glad to hear that you've been keeping up with your schoolwork, but the summer holidays must be just around the corner so I wish you a good golfing summer. Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory- Congrats on your good play in Wentworth! I was wondering how you set up for putts and what drills do you do to work on when putting. Can't wait to see you play over in the U. S. during the U.S. Open - Chris Mckallen

Chris McKallen

Hi there Chris, with my pre-shot routine for putting I line the ball up with the hole, set my address position and make two practice swings. I take one last look at the hole before pulling the trigger. I do quite a few putting drills one of which is hitting practice putts with one left in the air i.e. flexed at the knee and behind you as if your're about to kick backwards! This action de-stabilises you and any unnecessary movements will throw you and your stroke completely off balance. If you hit ten to twenty putts like this you'll set a far more solid stroke. Also have a go at putting with your eyes closed - this is a great way of getting feel for pace etc. Am really looking foward to Bethpage! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, My dad is going to Ireland in the spring and he is wondering what courses and places he should visit there. It is his first time going and he is going there with a few of his good friends. Whenever you could get back to me with places he should go and golf courses he should play that would be awesome! He is really looking forward to going, he plans to go to all areas of Ireland on his big trip. As always you are amazing and the best golfer ever! :) Emmy Lindfors

Emily Lindfors

Hi Emmy, great to hear that your Dad's off to the Emerald Isle for his holidays! He'll have a seriously great time! There's loads of good course and I would definitely recommend Royal Portrush, Royal County Down, County Louth (where the Irish Open was this year), Portmarnock, The K Club, Ballybunion, Doonbeg and of course Lough Erne which will be open for play in July this year and is totally stunning. I hope he has a fantastic time and I've no doubt that it'll be the best golf holiday he's ever had. Cheers, Rory.

Firstly congratulations on your recent form on both tours. Secondly as I am in secondary school taking my GCSE's I would like to ask you if you spent more time on the course or more time at home studying for the exams. Also I am sure I will one day be world number 1. Chris

Chris Pearson

Hi Chris, to be perfectly honest I probably spent more time playing golf than I did studying - but having said that this is not the course of action I would recommend for anyone still at school. It's really important to get good grades in your exams so keep at it! Good luck with your exams and with your quest to be World No 1. Exams first, golf second! All the best, Rory.

Congrats Rory. Great performances over the past few weeks. Not as good as I'm sure you would have liked, but great nevertheless. Be assured "Rory's Regiment" is still behind you and the numbers are growing every day. Keep it up and we look forward to having you on this side of the pond for the U.S. Open.

Jim McDowell

Hi there Jim, thanks for the message - I'm really looking forward to returning to America and will be working hard for the next couple of weeks. The support I get from over there really blows me away so thanks for that! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Id like to first of all say Well Done for what you have achieved to date!! I have grown up in Holywood and love the place, and can remember when you were hitting a ball up redburn field as a youngster! My question is this will Holywood always have a special place in your Heart? I currently Drive a ball 220-250yards on a half swing but just cant seem to do a full swing, any tips? Blackie (Kenny Blacks son)

Jonathan Black

Hi Blackie, Holywood will almost certainly be the most special place for me always. I love it too! Perhaps with your Driver it could be a question of tempo, try the full swing but make sure it's really smooth and you get the timing right. With just a half swing you can tend to be a little quicker than normal. Hope it helps. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, I'm 12 and my little brother loves tennis. we looked on your website and he spotted that you enjoyed tennis too. he wanted to know who your ''idol'' is in tennis.

Jack Dignan

Hi Jack, my tennis idol would have to be Nadal, he's a great player and is just so exciting to watch. I'm not quite as good as him though!!! All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, my name is jack and i was wondering what your favourite make of ball/clubs were or which make you prefer to use.

Jack Dignan

Hi Jack, that's an easy question to answer! I play with Titlest Clubs and use the Titleist ball - I reckon they are definitely the best and have always used them. Cheers, Rory.

Not so much a question but more a big thankyou! My son and I recently saw you at the European open on the Wednesday. Although very busy and focussed on the tournament ahead you still found time to sign my son's cap which we are very grateful! Fingers crossed for you for the future and well done for inspiring young players.

Jason Taylor

Hi Jason, it was a pleasure and thanks very much for your support. Hope you had a great time. Regards, Rory.

Hi Rory, since you travel a lot does the change in the time zone effect you much?

Mimi Eaton

Hi Mimi, it doesn't really effect me too much. I really try and eat at the right times for the place I'm going and that seems to work quite well. Usually I feel more of the effects after I've returned from a trip! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory I am 13 and play off 2 around St Andrews. I have to say I do inspire to be like you. I was wondering in the middle of the season would you still continue to do weight training as I am not sure if I should continue doing it in the middle of the season? Hope the rest of the season goes well. Cheers Ewan.

Ewan Scott

Hi there Ewan, lucky you playing at St Andrews - my all time favourite - and two handicap is great so well done. I think it's important to keep up with your fitness all the year round really. Personally I don't do a massive amount of weight training but really concentrate on core stability which is vital to keep that area in tip top condition. Good luck, Rory.

Hey Rory, I was just wondering what your favorite sport is besides golf. I am an avid golfer here in Michigan, but I really love to play hockey in the off-season. I also run track and cross country, and play soccer as well. I guess I was just wondering what you liked to do! Good luck in your future events, I'll be rooting for you over Tiger and Phil............................Your Fan Evan Moreau

Evan Moreau

Hi there Evan, one of my big passions is football and I'm an avid supporter of Manchester Unitied - I also play football with my mates when I'm having time off. I also enjoy a game of tennis now and again and am a big fan of Formula 1 motor racing. Thanks for your support, Rory.

conGRATS on birthday just found out been busy with school. Do you have any cars or are you too busy or have you not passed your test. CONgrats

Christopher Magowan

Hi Christopher, thanks for the birthday wishes - I'm getting old now! I do have a car and currently drive an Audi S5 which is great and I really love it. Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, I am 15 years old and have a handicap of 9 after playing golf for three years. (I wish I had of started earlier!!!) I was wondering how you made the step from such a handicap to the worlds best amateur playing off +6 and then of course to an awesome tour pro that everyone is talking about !?!? Thanks, and good luck ...

Conor Dick

Dear Conor, I think I've got to where I am today by having the most supportive parents any person could ever wish for. They have supported me in my golf from a very young age for which I am so grateful to both of them - they sacrificed such a lot for me. I played in as many junior events as I could and spent all my time on the practice range to get myself as good as I possibly could - and I still do that now. Whatever your level of golf there is always room for improvement. Hope you're enjoying your golf too. Regards, Rory.

Hi Rory, I hear you moving in beside me at Moneyreagh and I would just like to wish you all the best with the move. How much time would you really get to spend at home with your very busy tour schedule?

Paul Dempster

Thanks for that Paul, I'm really looking forward to it. Obviously I will be away from home a lot but just love coming back there in my time off and seeing all my friends and stuff. I guess I'll probably be there about twenty weeks in the year. It's going to be really cool living there and I can't wait! Cheers, Rory

Hi Rory, just wondering how far is your longest drive and how long/short are you in comparison to the players in the top fifty.

Neil Murray

Hi Neil, that's quite a tricky one really as it so much depends on the course conditions, wind direction etc. This year in the Driving Distance stats I'm currently 6th with an average of 302.7, John Daly currently occupies first spot with 317 and 50th spot is 291.8 so really there's not a great deal in it. At every tournament two drives are measured per round on holes chosen to counteract the effect of gradient or wind. The drives are measured at the point they come to rest regardless of whether they are on the fairway or not so this is how these figures are arrived at! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, I was just wondering what a normal day is like for you? I know you are still really young, so I was wondering how much time you spend on golf, and how much you leave for your social life and what not.? Oh by the way, Happy Birthday!!!

Jennifer Elsholz

Hi Jennifer, thanks for the birthday wishes I had a great day. A normal day for me? Well, when I'm at home I do all sorts of stuff - I like watching live bands, I play football and have the odd game of tennis with my mates, I enjoy going to watch Rugby, spending time with my girlfriend, going out for dinner, all the usual stuff I guess! I do also practice my golf as well! Cheers, Rory.

No question just a comment: HAPPY BIRTHDAY RORY! YAY! YOU ARE 20! WHOOOOOOOOO! yeah im an American I don't think European people go all nuts for someone's birthday, but birthdays are AWESOME! and so r u! haha. Also my friends just label me as crazy and a little bit nuts. they still dont get why i think a golfer is cooler than a jonas brother. whatever... Emmy Lindfors, your American friend

Emily Lindfors

Hey Emmy, thanks for the message - really made me laugh! I'm well pleased to be cooler than a Jonas Brother!! Thanks for the birthday wishes, I had a great day. Thanks, Rory.

Hello Rory, Im a Liverpool fan and I know your a United fan! Do you reckon Liverpool will catch United in the title race? Thanks Deano

Deano Reynolds

Hi Deano, well anything's possible in sport but I for one certainly hope that United will be winning the Premiership title once more! Sorry Liverpol! Cheers, Rory

Hey Rory, just a short question. Do you remember what your handicap was when you were 15/16 years old? Just curious because my friends and I were trying to guess what it would have been and we can't agree on a number. Take care, Alex

Alex Sehgal

Hi there Alex, when I was 16 my handicap went to plus four! I shot a course record 61 at Royal Portrush in Ireland so that took a few shots off! Cheers, Rory.

Hi Rory, Happy 20th Birthday! Have fun celebrating! Also good luck at The Players Tournament!

Mimi Eaton

Hi Mimi, thanks for the birthday wishes - I had a great day. Am really looking forward to Sawgrass and hope to put in a good performance there. All the best, Rory.

Hi Rory, I know you are in the game Tiger Woods PGA tour 09, i was wondering are going to be in Tiger Woods 10? If so have you done any motion capture of your swing or worked with EA at all this year? Cheers!!!!! Justin Miller

Justin Miller

Hi again Justin! Well I know I'm in the 2009 version and hopefully he'll let me be in the 2010 version - haven't done anything on this so far! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory, just wondering how old were you when you got your first membership at a golf course. I just got my first one this year. Oh by the way i play everyday and i usually play 36 holes my dad thinks im a sicko!!

Denver Jalette

Hi Denver, I was allowed to join Holywood Golf Club just before my 8th birthday which was really exciting for me. 36 holes in a day is quite normal!! Cheers, Rory.

Dear Rory, you already know how proud we are, to think you are a member of Holywood, but I wonder, did you know you were a question on Eggheads recently.?? True fame.!! Well done on your Race to Dubai standings. All the best , Sheelagh Davidson.

Sheelagh Davidson

Hi Sheelagh, thanks for the lovely message. A question on Eggheads - wow - it's all happening! I hope they got the answer right! I know I was in a crossword somewhere recently too! All the best, Rory

HeY RoRy, congrats on a top 20 finish in the masters. When are you going to get a haircut? i have curly hair as long as yours and its getting in the way of my swing. Just wondering- Jonathan Hand

Jonathanhand Jonathanhand

Hi there Jonathan, well I keep thinking about it but haven't had it cut yet! Maybe when it gets in the way of my swing I'll have to give it more serious consideration!! All the best, Rory.

It must have been a magical experience to play the Masters as well as the other tournaments in the U.S. What do feel were your highlights and your disappointments and what did you learn that you'll take back when you go the Players? "You've only just begun!" Michael

Michael Macfadyen

Hello Michael, the highlights of my trip to America were moving up 55 places on the last day in Houston going from 74th to 19th. The whole Masters experience was a highlight, my dad caddying for me in the par 3 competition, making a great run on the Friday. The bunker mishap was a disappointment. But then on the last day finishing in the top 20 was a big highlight as well as having all my family there too. I was also disappointed with how I played at Hilton Head but had I been in the right frame of mind I’d have done better but was mentally shattered after the Masters. At Sawgrass I'll just to try and conserve energy as I’ve got a lot of golf to play after Sawgrass as well. Cheers Rory.

Hey Rory, Best of luck on the tour in 2009. Alot of folks enjoy watching you and cheering you on. It will be fun seeing your skills develop as you age.

Jt Turner

Dear Jt, thanks for the message - it's so fantastic to have so much support from around the world and I'm really enjoying it all. Thanks, Rory.

Hi Rory.Thank you for all the immeasurable pleasure you are giving us here in Holywood. We are very proud of you. I wonder if my mother-in-law at 99 years of age is your oldest fan? A few weeks ago she even signed up to Setanta so that she can follow you in America as well as Europe! Hope to get you to sign a 100th birthday card for her in November. It would really make her day! Best wishes. Neil Anderson

Neil Anderson

Hi Neil, thanks for the lovely message. I'm well impressed with your mother in law signing up to Setanta so she can watch - what a compliment that is! She certainly could be my oldest fan out there! Say hi to her from me! Cheers, Rory.

Hey Rory!!!! I was at the Shell Houston Open a couple of weeks ago and you were freaking amazing!!! I was actually one of the girls that wore the shirt that said "Kiss me, I'm Irish" and had your picture on it hahaha How did you like them?? Anyways you're a great golfer! You should come back to Texas like the Byron Nelson or something!! Good Luck!!

Rachel Mulkey

Hi there Rachel, they certainly made me laugh and I must admit I was 'freaking' amazed at the support I got over there in America! It was a great event which I really enjoyed and hopefully will be back again in the future. Cheers, Rory.

Rory, how did you work on your wedgeplay as a kid? thanks a lot for being a great role model, yours truly Nick Marsh

Nick Marsh

Hi Nick, When I was younger I'd go to the range and I’d just put towels out or umbrellas at 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 yards and then try and make a swing that the ball hit that far – I’m not really a one for the 9 o'clock 10 o'clock way of practising. The best way is just keep on repeating it until you're happy with it! Good luck, Rory

Hey rory, i wanted to thank you for answering my two other questions i have asked. It means the world to me!!!!! I noticed your using a different putter at Hilton Head.....what putter is it and how come the switch? Cheers!!!! good luck this weekend. Justin

Justin Miller

Hi Justin, yes I was using a different putter at Hilton Head - it's a Scotty Cameron Newport Prototype and is 34" long, an inch longer than the other one. It seems to make me able to get a straight line over the ball and make me see a straight line better and gives me a little more flow to my putting stroke. Cheers, Rory.

congrats on a top masters. stunning back nine on sunday. good luck for the rest of the year.

Conor Merrigan

Hi Rory great to see you walking around the course with a big smile on your face, nice to see you enjoying your game. All the best Martin Somers.
