Rory good luck in bridgestone tomorow, I followed you when you were in Ireland at the JP MCmanus pro am, I was standing behind you on the 14th day on the 2nd day and I seen you hit a sort of stinger 3 or 5 wood, you took a divot which was pretty cool, I just wanted to know how you played this type of shot? Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Hi Daniel, it was a good steady week at Firestone and am looking forward to the USPGA this week. With the stinger type of shot you set up with the ball back in your stance and have your hands forward at address as this deloft's the club. At impact I don't release my hands as much so it's a bit like a punch shot. There you go, easy!! Cheers, Rory.
Hi Rory. watching you play golf this year has really inspired me to start playing. The more i play the better im getting but the one thing i need help with is putting could you give me some tips please :).
Hi Graham, good to hear that you've started playing. It's really important that you get a putter that's the right length for you so I reckon you should go and see your local pga pro and have a chat with him about it. It maybe a good idea at the same time to have a putting lesson so you can get your ball position, stance, weight distribution, etc, etc, just right so that'll definitely be a big help. Good luck, Rory.
Hi Rory, your win at Quail Hollow was something special and to see you up close at Lough Erne was also special in July and thank you for the photo something I will cherish for many years to come can you tell me what Driver you use and the very best of luck in Ohio and of course the USPGA the following week which I think you'll win play well and thank you, Paul Sloan, Dublin.
Hi Paul, thanks for the message and so glad you enjoyed Lough Erne and managed to grab a photo too. My Driver is a Titleist 909D2 with 8.5 degrees of loft. I'm really looking forward to the next couple of weeks in America. Cheers, Rory.
Hi Rory, I first wanted to start off by saying I am a big follower of you. I admire your swing and how you play your game. I am 16 years of age and currently playing off 24. I thought you would be able to give me some tips to get down to a single figure handicap within a year. I was also wondering what handicap is best to have to start playing tournaments and how do I enter my self into them. Thank you.
Hi Niall, to get down to a good handicap it is really important to get lessons from a PGA professional to make sure you're doing all the right things with your swing. Perfecting your shots from 100 yards and in is a great way to improve your scores and reduce your handicap. At most clubs the competitions are open to players of all abilities who have a handicap and generally speaking they run them in two or three divisions so you are competing with people of a similar ability. So long as you have a proper handicap and are a member of a club you can enter these competitions. When your standard improves and you do get down to single figures you can then enter open competitions and see how you go from there. Good luck, Rory.
Rory, first I just want to start off by saying good luck in the Irish Open. Also, keep working hard like I know you are and I am quite sure we will be seeing your name at the top of the leaderboards for many years to come. One more thing. I saw a picture of you the other day after your victory at Quail Hollow and couldnt help but notice the watch you were wearing. Great looking watch my friend. I was wondering if you could fill me in on what kind it was? Anyways best of luck the rest of the season and go get em in the PGA championship and get that first major. Cheers.
Hi Bryson, a good start in Ireland so far! My watch is an Audermars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore and it's an awesome piece of kit! They have their own website which is www.audemarspiguet.com which, if you're a real watch lover, will give you plenty to look at! Cheers, Rory.
